Frequently Asked Questions

  • Hi, I’m Minnie, a qualified and registered counsellor and female trauma-informed therapist specializing in working with Millennial and Gen X women.

I work online throughout the UK as well as offering walk + talk therapy in Oxfordshire.

  • I work with women in their 30s, 40s and 50s who feel stuck in survival mode, lost, burnt out or like they’ve fallen behind.

    I regularly work with:

    • anxiety

    • depression

    • stress + burnout

    • perfectionism + people pleasing

    • self-confidence, self-worth and self-esteem

    • identity + purpose

    • life transitions including perimenopause + menopause, relationship issues, dating, break-ups, divorce, childfree by choice

    • bereavement

    • domestic abuse + childhood trauma

I also have additional specialist training and experience working with perinatal mental health including:

    • postnatal depression, postpartum anxiety + OCD

    • matrescence (the process of becoming a mother)

    • infertility, pregnancy, birth trauma, miscarriage + baby loss

    • overwhelm, anger, guilt and loss of self

  • Counselling is a safe and confidential space, where I will listen without judgement - it can be helpful if you feel unable to share difficult thoughts or feelings with loved ones, either through fear of upsetting them or their best intentions to ‘fix’ it for you. Sometimes you need the space to be heard and find your own solutions, however long that takes. I will meet you where you are at, not trying to change you or your situation, and offer the distance and perspective you may be needing.

We will go at your pace and with what you choose to bring, you are always in charge.

I am an integrative therapist which means I can draw from a number of different theories and modalities to best suit you and your needs - I blend person-centred therapy with acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), transactional analysis (TA), inner child therapy, attachment theory, neuroscience and bring in the lens of your nervous system. I will also offer simple psychoeducation, tools or insights that may help you understand yourself better.

I work relationally, bringing my authentic self to our collaborative partnership - I am not a robot or a nodding, blank-faced therapist. I will help you to connect with yourself, your feelings, your mind-body connection, by modelling this myself and by empathically experiencing with you.

  • Online sessions take place via Microsoft Teams - you do not need an account, you can click ‘join from browser’ after you click the meeting link.

The meeting link will be sent to you once you book a consultation or session, this will be included in your booking confirmation email and appointment reminder sent 1 day before your session.

Please ensure you are in a quiet and private space where you feel comfortable and cannot be overheard. I request that you keep your camera on at all times, if you are uncomfortable with this and would prefer to do phone therapy this can be arranged.

  • Walk + talk therapy is an alternative to traditional counselling in a room or online. Whilst I aim to foster a relaxed feel in all my sessions, walking side by side (and the lack of eye contact that comes with that) along with the regulating effects of movement and nature can help you to access and process thoughts and emotions that may feel stuck.

I have a limited number of slots for walk and talk therapy in select locations in North Oxfordshire. If you’d like to find out more abut how this works please get in touch.

  • The number of sessions you wish to have is up to you. It can take the first few sessions to feel comfortable and realistically evaluate the effectiveness of therapy. I’ve worked with clients from 6 sessions to several years, you are always in charge and free to end at any point - in long term work it’s best to work towards an ending rather than stopping suddenly.

As a general rule in shorter term work, e.g. 6 to 12 sessions we can make progress on 1-2 issues, whereas if you’re wanting to address a number of things or make long lasting changes longer term work is more suited to this. You can always do a block of therapy and return at a later date to build on this, my door is always open.

  • Sessions are 60 minutes long and cost £60. These are at the same day/time either weekly or fortnightly (your slot is reserved for you).

There is the option to have 90 minute ad-hoc or check-in sessions (£90) for returning clients once a certain number of weekly/fortnightly work has been completed.

  • The first step is to book a FREE 20-minute online consultation in which I can answer any questions you may have and we can see if I’m the right fit for you and your therapy goals.

Either fill in the booking form at https://www.thewomenstherapist.co.uk/bookafree20minuteconsultation or email hello@thewomenstherapist.co.uk

Should you choose to start therapy after this you can book either weekly or fortnightly session, continuing for as long as you wish and need - you can organize this in the consultation or afterwards via email.
